Be the Art; Live the Story...
I am an artist and a writer living and working in the utopian, artist colony of Arden, Delaware, just north of Wilmington.
A native of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, I earned my BFA of Fine Arts from the University of Delaware and began my professional life as a designer of high-end fabrics at a jacquard mill in Pennsylvania. The textile design studio where I worked was a rich training ground, giving me insight into color, texture, and pattern that informs the art I do today. Concurrent to this job, I wrote in my off-hours--blogging as MortalMom, writing essays and articles for local magazines, and eventually writing my novel: Summers At Blue Lake.
After leaving the textile industry, I sought a visual medium to fill the void and turned to painting textured portraits and landscapes. I paint on dark canvases because I like starting with the dark and bringing my subjects "into the light."
Since moving to my home in the Sherwood Forest of Arden in 2013, my art has taken on the rhythms of my surroundings. I paint forest and nature scenes in various degrees of abstraction. Recently, due to the political and social climate, I have added female figures to my landscape, exploring the forest as a place of mystery, uncertainty, danger, obstacle, and transformation.
My writing, too, is rooted in this place. I write about the inspirational people and happenings of Wilmington for blogs such as INWilmington and magazines like Out & About. I am currently writing a memoir/personal growth book about lessons I have learned living in an artist's utopia.
In 2023, I was awarded the prestigious Emerging Artist Fellowship in painting from Delaware Division of the Arts. I am a proud founding member of the Arden Artisans Collective.
My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.

I mainly use acrylic paint on dark canvases, applied with brush or palette knife with textural elements such as coarse mediums or metallic leaf. I like to use paints with iridescent qualities as accent and then tone my work with either an umber wash or buff them in tinted wax.
My career highlights will always be the people with whom I connect through my art and writing. I love the synergy of a shared experience that follows the solitary practice and interior nature of creating new work.
