This painting depicts a woman, suited up in clothing for the elements (boots, mosquito netting) foraging for mushrooms in the forest. She is looking for sustenance, but also for the rejuvenation that time alone and in nature can supply. While this mushroom is for food, the reference is also to mushrooms as psychedelics and the power of mind transformation, of becoming one with nature, of creative forces. At the same time, the subject is hesitant and wearing armor against unwanted bodily harm. How do we as women set boundaries, fill our own longings, and nurture ourselves and others, especially during times of chaos like we find ourselves in during this COVID pandemic?
