Another painting in my series of female figures in forest scenes, Raiment speaks of adorning one's self in colors like the trees in autumn. There is power in these colors. I played with transparency and texture. The subject is a woman who is fiercely autonomous, regal even. She challenges the view to look at her, not as a critic would look to dissect beauty, but as a subject might look up to someone in authority. Holding all the power of the gaze, she is a queen giving us an audience. Viewers of the painting become supplicants.
