24" x 18" Latex and ceramic paint on canvas. Sleeping Ballerina is one of a series of paintings of my daughter during the first years of her dancing and a nod to Degas's Little Dancer. The painting is done on a black canvas with high-end interior paints originally intended for faux finishes in homes. The quality of the paint gives both texture and luster. I finish these paintings by buffing them with a tinted wax which adds to the dimensional quality while adding a soft, warm sheen. Sleeping Ballerina was painted and then the skirt was added in several layers of sheer paint, using tulle to further texture the layers.
